Avinash Chander Mannan
Avinash Mannan originally come from a small and spent most of his childhood in the quaint, little town and his maternal village of Thriewal, as a boy, he was a sharp student and would study for hours by the banks of a canal near Thriewal. On his way from Fateh Garh to Thriewal, Mannan would sit for hours… starting at the bungalow of the S.D.O. (in Aliwal). It was there that young Mannan realized his dream of becoming an engineer. Worked in the Punjab State Elecctricity Board. Taling about the great legacy of thoughts his parents passed on to him, Mannan peacefully reflects, “My parents always taught me that hard work and dedication can surpass any boundary and my father always encouraged us to think big and ahead of our time.” Mannan feels that God has somewhere always been kind to him as he’ always seemed to have someone, to catch his hand and help him step up the ladder. “During my foundation years, “he recalls, “I had the help of my school teachers, Shri Ganpat Ram Ji and Shri Darshan Lal Ji. They realized my potential at an early age and took me under their wing, going above and beyond to help me, “ states the indebted pupil. “So, “ he further adds, “although, it would be easy to take all the credit for everything 1 driving force behind me, ‘conveys Mannan in complete reverence of his mentors.
Grade 9 to 12 was a challenge due to lack of qualified teachers especially for students wishing to pursue science subjects. “I was the only student o appear for the science examinations in English, having studies on my own from whatever text books were available in the school, “claims Mannan.
Avinash Mannan went on to join the DAV College Amritsar for pre engineering; commuting by train daily between the village and Amritsar and returning back late night. Due to lack of transport available at early hours in those days, he traversed the 18 km journey on a bicycle to attend the early morning extra classes at the college at the college on many days. Added to this of course, was the passion of his father’s dream… who wanted Mannan to be an engineer, and so he spent all his meager savings to this cause. The stepping stone to Mannan’s dream came when having qualified the pre engineering examination with a very good grade; he got admitted to pursue his studies in civil engineering at the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. “At Thapar, “recalls Mannan, “I was a keen student, excelling in academics and sports, as well as being actively involved with campus committees. I was among the toppers of the Punjabi University, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering in 1974, “he conveys. Mannan also refers to this event as the most important turning point of his life as it elevated his career and helped him surpass many layers of bureaucracy. Avinash becam the first person from his class to past the IES examination in the first attempt. He was duly rewarded as he was later appointed Assistant Director (Design) in the National Buildings Organization (NBO), Ministry of Works and Housing, Government of India. “My parents’ prayers were answered, from then on, there was no looking back, “confirms Mannan. Avinash Mannan’s is the story of a self made man and he very intensely summarizes it in the following words. Says the humble achiever, “God helps those who help themselves. If you work hard, work with utmost dedication and are honest to your goals, success is inevitable. “ mannan further very eloquently adds, “If you remember your roots, your family values, and go through your journey step by step, things will fall in place. Undoubtedly, “ he maintains, “one will face abstacles, but honesty and determination will yield you the courage to get over them. “Mannan cautions and further says, “If you try to rush, cheat, or try to attain success through undue means, your success will be temporary. “ in his most pious reflections, Avinash Mannan confesses, “My journey has been hard but it has been just amazing. Every day has been a gift, a new experience, a blessing. “ Upon graduation, based on the Indian Engineering Services Examination (Combined Engineering Services), Avinash Mannan became the only person from his class to qualify the examination in the first attempt and was appointed Assistant Director (Designs) to the National Buildings Organization (NBO), Ministry or works and Housing at nirman Bhava, New Delhi where he served for 3 years. Mannan then, in 1978, shifted and started work for a contracting company serving in Bahrain, U.A.E. and Iraq, before settling in Kuwait in May 1980.
The shift to Kuwait proved to be a decisive point in Avinash Mannan’s Career. Today, When he looks back and evaluates his choices, Mannan feels satisfied. He feels he has been able to accomplish more than what he set our for and has proven to himself and as part of a team…some of the most noteworthy projects done in Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq. I’ve had a very rewarding career with a clear conscience. “To this mannan quite ardently adds, “If were to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. “During Mannan’s tenure as an industry practitioner, he helf positions such as Chief Engineer, Senior Engineer, Technical Manager and Chief Executive Officer in Various engineering establishment and was responsible for some to the most note worthy projects in the state of Kuwait. Avinash Mannan also had a wide range of senior Executive level experiences which includes his current role as Chief Executive and Managing Partner of First Performance General Trading and contracting Company in Kuwait. Mannan has been actively responsible for the strategic direction and overall management of the company; including the early expansion of the service offerings in to project management, trading services and the development of the organizational framework.”I believe,”he says, “in commitment to delivering the highest quality of service to clients.
Mannan’s Professional achievements have the stroung backing and inspiration of his better helf Nisha. She has claims been a driving force in his life. “She is a born leader and a very sincere human being, “conveys Mannan. Further he informs, “She is a talented singer, dancer, and is strongly involved with various social causes. “ Nisha and Avninash Mannan have three sons, Akshat, Anirudh and Nikhil. All the three sons have taken on their parents and are pursuing their choices in career and academics with tremendous promis. “My family, “admits a candid Mannan, “is my strength and I have always shared everything with them. During my initial entrepreneurial days, “he says, “I would discuss with my family they have been with me during my my ups and downs. My family has always been like an anchor for me,” emphasizes Mannan. He feels fortunate that his children enjoy visiting India; that they are aware of their roots, his village, people are very appreciative of the simple things in life.
